The volume pot had become very stiff and my local good shop cured the problem. When I got it back however, it seemed the fifth string was very weak in volume, so weak I thought it was a bad string and changed it with not much, if any, improvement. Taking a closer look at it with my "legally blind vision", I don't remember seeing so much space on one end of the pickup.

Excuse my blurry pics. Common sense tells me that the pick up poles are out of line with the strings. Is this a good assumption?? I loosened the two bolts on the bottom of the guitar and gently pushed on the pick up back in what seemed the correct direction, but it didn't move. I'll take it back to the shoppe, but does anybody have any comment please. The white item is just a piece of card over the chrome to mitigate reflection. It's the first time I ever had any problem with the great beast!!!!

George, the 4 screws on the back of the guitar mount the pickup assembly (on springs) to the body. There are other screws that mount the magnets and poles together and to the base. I don't know why any of these would have been touched when the pot was repaired but there may be some room for adjustment here.

Wait! I just saw something. It looks looks like the poles piece is reversed in your pictures. I have several 7 stringers and there is a separate pole for the 6th string then a blade for 3 strings (5,4 &3) then seperate poles for each of the 3 other strings. On yours the order is different. The blade is under the 2nd through 5th strings.

That's an awesome guitar, George. Glad to know it's once again working the way it's supposed to. Those old 7-string Gibsons are special. The 7-string Gibson that I rescued from oblivion and set up for A6 is one of my favorites.
