I've been playing steel for a couple years now but i've never had to do any repairs and now I have a problem.Mine (Emmons leGrande SD10) has the LKL set to raise the E's to F.When I release the lever the top E (4th)string does not return to pitch.It doesn't feel like anything binding but not as much tension on this KL as the others.I've cleaned and lubed the changer but still not working.Any help would be appreciated without having to ship it out.The RKL which I have lowering the E's to Eb works fine.

Does the 4th string return to pitch when you press and release the C pedal?
If so, then the problem can be narrowed down to the knee lever mechanism/linkages.
Otherwise, it may be a broken string stuck in the changer. |

Alternately, it could be hysteresis, where the non-singing string length, above the nut, retains tension, and the singing length thus returns flat.
Oiling the roller nut is the prescribed fix; but I'm not sure hysteresis can be cured.

The "Hysterisis" happens when a string is lowered and treturns sharp. This is not the case with this one.
If it works OK with the "C" pedal then it's probably something mechanical in the Knee lever. |

| Make sure that there is some "slop" in the change itself. That is- there should be a little bit of time between the actual start of the knee lever movement and the actual time of the start of the string raising. If not - it could be that the string cannot get back to the unengaged position and needs a bit longer throw. |

Thanks for all the help guys,the main problem was the "C" pedal.Backed everything off,tuned open strings then tuned pedals and knee levers,cleaned and oiled and she's back to normal.
