Hi folks, been a while since i've posted this, some may find it interesting. This is my original design, hand assembled at Castle Creek Guitars in Gunnison Co. Unique Resophonic, our custom B Bender-Vibrato system, Acoustic / Electric, voiced fuller and deeper then most Reso's. Explore pedal steel runs, add vibrato, create your own voicings! Some Dobrato performers include Jason Isbell {used on and received a Grammy for "If We Were Vampires"} Mike Campbell, Jimmy Buffett, Tom Petty, Mac McAnally, Billy Gibbons, many, many more. Includes fitted Boulder Alpine Bag. This is such a blast to play, I focus on very playable setups. Please call with any questions about the design. Kent Viles, 970-641-2747,

Very cool idea and look. So what lower tuning do you use? And I'm guessing the B-bender is the Bigsby bending all strings at once? Are there electronic built into the guitar? And why do you use the National biscuit type cone rather than the dobro cone - does the spider bridge interfere with the Bigsby? Just asking because I'm always interested in evolutionary developments in resonator guitars.

Thanks Peter,
I tune this in standard tuning however many use alternate tunings. I feel to best utilize the B Bender, standard tuning facilitates the pedal steel moves I'm trying to somewhat replicate.
The B Bender / Vibrato is our unique design which attaches to the shaft on the base of a Bigsby B5. The B Bender / Vibrato is not a Bigsby design. The vibrato effects all the strings simultaneously like most vibrato's. The lateral pull of the vibrato arm effects just the B string pulling it to a C#. This can be adjusted to pull to whatever note {within reason} however B to C# is the standard.
I chose the Biscuit cone for it's deeper more reverberate tone. Spiders are a great sound as well but I wanted a fuller, richer tone so the instrument could be used in various styles of music. I spent 4 years building prototypes and eventually got the deeper tone out of the body design I was going for and the biscuit facilitates that. The pickup is a Fishman we helped design, the cone is spun by Paul Beard. Thanks again and let me know if I can provide any additional info. Thanks. |
