Looking for a high-quality strap for playing my Dobro standing up. Usually I set it on a Deluxe34 stand, but I have an upcoming opportunity to play outdoors with a roving acoustic band. Don't need a super-expensive, hand-tooled work of art, just something comfortable, utilitarian, and serviceable that will do the job.

Sounds like a fun gig!

There are lots of resonator straps on the market at wildly varying prices. Brands like Webb, Levy’s and Lakota come to mind. I use a simple, clean 2.5” unlined leather guitar strap on mine, since Dobros are so lightweight (at least compared to a banjo!). For my lap steel, which I play standing up, I use a NeoTech guitar strap, but I also have a tooled Levy’s padded Kokopelli strap that looks sharp.

To make this work, you need a quick release headstock attachment. I use the Planet Waves - cheap, easy, and it’s held up for me. 7 bucks everywhere. Also, you might want to consider a strap lock for the endpin, or at least the Grolsch washer trick. Which also means you have beer!

I can recommend Levy's ... I own two. I would suggest you look at their Signature series. Very nice quality at reasonable cost.

I recently bought a Franklin dobro strap. A little on the pricy side but very comfortable. https://franklinstrap.com/product/resonator-strap-glove-leather/

+1 on Poff strap (hard to come by: Is Bobby still making them?).

Look for a strap that won’t stretch and also has smooth, rolled edges. You need a solid, secure base for playing close to the nut. And hard, straight edged tanned leather straps can be uncomfortable on your neck.

Jack, I have a Levy´s reso strap hanging on the wall that I traded for a few years ago that has hardly ever been used and I could probably let go cheap. Please send me a PM or email if you might be interested. Good Luck in The Search! Cool

Poff Straps keep the guitar very stable while playing. Pricey but worth it.

Just make sure it's plenty wide. And I do mean wide.

Thanks to all who replied. And special thanks to Michael, who made me an offer I could not refuse.
