I have everything I want in my Clinesmiths and Sol’s Rickenbacher, but I’d love to have a Moog lap steel. I’ve had many other of the desirable steels at one time or another.

I love my Maggy D8, although a large part of its appeal for me is the sentimental part...its association with JAS. Sadly I found it didn't make me immediately sound like him.
The Stringmaster was my first "nice" steel guitar and ive got almost nothing to complain about it. The two pickups in series sound great, and it just feels right to me.
I'd say a Ricky pan too but my Clinesmith frypan arrives tomorrow...so withholding judgement! 8 strings and long scale!!

It's got a great tone to be sure, a bit more mid-forward than my Stringmaster (although I still don't "get" what the tone control does exactly). But when I play it I think Hawaii Calls more than Tapa Room because I play a bit more sedately, like Jules did in the studio (Sand, Mauna Kea...just a nice middy warm tone), where he was actually quite restrained compared to his wild, manic Tapa Room stuff!
Tonight though, with this Clinesmith fry pan in my lap, well, let me just say...golly. Never played a Ricky frypan before (kicks self, was just in Alan Akaka's studio last month with such a frypan in the corner!) but wow. I should probably post in a Clinesmith thread but this is an impressive instrument.

| Well I already have a Console Grande and a couple Stringmasters, so I guess a Bigsby? Probably find a nice Dual Pro or Custom some day. |

I already have three electric steel guitars that I am happy with. But to make a really objective analysis, I would require more experience with different playing situations and venues. I would guess none are perfect. Professionals who gig regularly and tour would be the best people to ask. So, with that long winded cop-out, I'll just say that I would like this one to add to the three I already have . . . .
