Hi everybody,
is anyone has play or is playing a Linkon with the newer under carriage with the Delrin bearings ?
I'm curious to know how you guys like it

All the Linkon guitars I have ever seen were exact copies of the 80's MSA Classic as far as mechanicals were concerned.. All parts in the entire undercarriage were MSA clone, and every part fit the MSA Classic guitars, right down to the pedals.
Wayne Link built a nice steel guitar, and I actually liked the look of some of his wood bodies better than the MSA bodies.. The Linkon guitar should play exactly like an MSA Classic because thats basically what it is underneath.
Every single part fits the MSA Classic, and is assembled in an identical manner.
MSA Classic guitars played very well, stayed in tune perfectly, and were among the most robust, reliable and dependable steel guitars ever built. I would expect the exact same performance from the Linkon... bob

| I have a early`80s Linkon that is almost an exact ShoBud replica. Even had the bad worn out ShoBud fingers. I installed bearings on the fingers and love the feel of it. Plays smooth like butter. A little more cabinet drop then my Carter. I refinished it and just love it. No Delrin bearings on this one. I had a older D12 Linkon made exactly like a ZB . With metal flat bars underneath . Had the tone , but I couldn`t set her up right. Dave |

I could be wrong, but when the OP mentioned "Delrin bearings" I do believe he was thinking about the Linkon guitars using the MSA design undercarriage. bob

| Hi Stephane. The picture you posted has a front rail just like my MSA . Probably Nylon Shoulder/Washer Bushing ( that`s what Carter calls them) and not bearings on the cross shafts. The back of the cross shafts , where they anchor to the body are like my Linkon. Unless I don`t get the question right. Somebody will know more then me, I`m just a beginner when it comes to steel and undercarriages. Hope this helps. Dave |

| Ps . The pull rods, Bel cranks, Shafts , Knee levers... look just like my Linkon. Just the front rail looks MSA type. Dave |

When I rebuilt my ZB, I got the parts from Wayne.
They are just like the MSA Classic.

Actually I’m on the market for a SD10 or a S10. Having played older guitars for a while, I’m trying to clarify which PSG builder would suits my needs. Now being Canadian, Linkon would be a cheaper way to acquire a new or newer psg. But I do have my eyes on Williams and Show Pro either.
So the question is should I consider Linkon guitars as my next pedal steel or I wait to get a Williams or a Show Pro? |

Erv, that’s true but I like the salty opinions of the foromites!
It is helpful as up here, pedal steel guitars are not popular.
It is hard to try them, so this forum is a pretty neat source of salt and pepper.
So anyways, ever played a Linkon Erv? |

Sorry to say, I haven't. 
It might also behoove you to find a guitar in Canada.
There is quite an exchange rate difference between the US and Canada.
I am getting some MCI parts from Al Brisco and the Canadian dollar is only worth 75 cents in the US.

Oh yeah.. the exchange rate is killing us.
We have to bail out a nice pile of cash to acquire a 3000US PSG..
Oh and there's duties to pay too.. |

I just bought my Linkon pedal steel from Wayne,nice guy to deal with.I previously bought a used 1973 MSA classic from Wayne,stupidly sold it,it was a great guitar.I just ordered my new Linkon and it is supposed to be here Tues,getting excited..

I have a Tele plus telecaster, Larrivee acoustic. Also have a Fender resonator guitar with new Quarterman cone and spider, and an Allan tailpiece .Playing through a Fender Super Champ XD, using a little delay on the amp and a Harmonix Holy Grail Echo pedal, set on Hall turned to about 1pm.Just got a Fender Dual 6 Stringmaster style. Bought a Yamaha FGX5 Recently and love it. Recently got a Sho-NUFF 6 string pedal steel in open G.Still learning. |

OK, this is something I have not seen... I personally have never seen a Linkon with square cross shafts.. i imagine its a later design built by wayne... However, he builds a good steel regardless , and I imagine a late model linkon steel will play as well and sound as good as most any other good pedal steel... bob

| Hey Carl. Please post pics of your new Linkon when you receive it. Would love to see Wayne`s work these days. I have a early 80`s D 10 Linkon made exactly like a shobud underneath. I love it. I once owned a early 70`s D 12 made like the old ZB`s . It had the tone, but was a pain to set up and was not accurate. Dave. |

He told me he was a distributor or authorized MSA associated back in the day but he also said that he had made changes as he wanted.
Maybe someone can clear this up but I am fairly sure that was his start. I know at times others had people assumble their steels in Canada due to duty and other import things.
