Has this happened to you?
I had some gummy crap on my MSA kind of like dried up jelly or something like that.
I carry a rag and try to wipe it down and keep it in reasonable shape.
Wipe with rag, no good, try a little spit on a rag. No good.
I have tried to wipe this off a few times and finally got serious today.
With mild soap (Dawn) won't take it off but seems like I can move it around on top of the finish.
Black MSA Studio Pro is a painted automotive type finish.
Tried windex, alcohol, denatured alcohol. nothing will remove this.
I have noticed it repeatedly and on several occasions but I am not sure what it is or where it comes from.
Not like I am eating jelly donuts and drooling on my shiny guitar. Laughing
Finally against my better judgement I tried some Mothers polish. Abrasive! Whoa!
Mothers took it off but I wonder what it is and where it comes from.
Have any of you experienced anything like this?

Go out and buy a quart of naphtha. That's the best and safest chemical to remove any kind of goo or adhesive.

Could the goo be coming from your case? When foam rubber or plastics break down, they can leave some pretty sticky residue.

As Donny mentioned, Naptha will do it!

I'd try Goo Gone first. It's more gentle and works on most gooey residue.

If it is a painted finish you want to be very very careful about getting any kind of solvents near it.

I do suspect some sort of reaction to the case lining to be the culprit, especially if it is some of the "carpet type" like the outside of a lot of cases. I think the term is plasticizer migration.

MSA cases are made by red dirt cases I think and are very good quality.

It's a good idea to bear in mind that naptha is right up there with nitro glycerin in terms of volatility. I once saw a guy try to use it to light a fire in a wood stove. The shutters bounced off the ceiling, the kindling wood blew across the floor and he lost his eyebrows and the hair on his arms. Just sayin'

I've used WD-40 to remove adhesives such as those that are left after removing stickers, etc. I have never had a problem of it damaging any surfaces.

Errr - Nitroglycerin and naphtha are very different, and naphtha is not explosive. It is the mildest petroleum-based solvent available - which is why it's used as lighter fluid not charcoal lighter) - Ronson lighter fluid is naphtha with a little colorant and deodorizer.

It's the safest ting to use on a guitar, as it doesn't affect normal finishes or any plastics. Unless the thing is painted with conventional "spray paint" it'll take off the gunk and leave nothing.

WD-40 is known as a "dirty" solvent - a low-grade, partially refined liquid designed as a "Water Dispersant" - NOT a cleaner (Water Dispersant - 40th formula tested). It will leave a greasy film on the surface. It normally doesn't "damage" surfaces, but the film it leaves collects dust and dirt.

If it's not explosive, how can it be used as lighter fluid to create fire? When I strike my Zippo, the flame is there the instant the flint sparks. That means it's explosive doesn't it?

Jerry Lee Lewis once sprayed down a piano with lighter fluid and lit it.
It didn't explode but it sure lit up! Very Happy
