I'm playing a '74 ShoBro 7-string: G, B, D, E, G, B. D. Sounds best with a set of light 80/20 strings, .12-.53. I'm using the .16 for the high unwound D, adding an unwound .18 for the B, and a wound .28 for the E. Coated strings work best where I live.
Does anyone know a good source for single 80/20 strings, preferably coated? Or folks who will assemble a custom set at reasonable cost?
No major retailers can cover me. The right right gauges often are unavailable, and single strings can cost nearly $5. I change strings often; I'm frustrated, and going broke.
Any help? Thanks --

I use juststrings.com. Shipping can be a pain but they have a very large selection and single strings are not a problem.
Coated 80/20 Daddario strings...not quite cheap but not 5 bucks either:
https://www.juststrings.com/exp8020bronzedaddarioguitarsinglestrings.html
Or if you can live without coated strings, buy their unbranded strings in bulk:
https://www.juststrings.com/8020bronzeguitarbulkstrings.html
So if you bought the uncoated 80/20 28s in bulk, and the unwound 18 likewise in bulk...7.70+2.90 for a dozen of each. Add in a dozen of their house brand 80/20 acoustic string sets for 4 bucks each...that would give you 12 sets for about 65 including shipping...just over 5 bucks a set. Now...you might want to try something like that out with just single strings first just to make sure you liked em, otherwise you're stuck with a whole bunch of strings you don't like! _________________ Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling

I'm a big fan of Strings and Beyond. Especially if you can stand to wait for sales and stock up on strings then. It just so happens that they're currently running a 15% off sale with code TAXRELIEF.
Thanks to them, I managed to save about $20 on 10 packs of my beloved D'Addario Chromes. _________________ If something I wrote can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, I meant the other one.

For custom string sets, I use JPStrings.com (John Pearse). They can assemble a set of any gauge strings you desire. |
