Here recently I have seen a couple of demo vids of vintage peavey tube amps and was quite pleased with what I’ve heard. I’ve heard the encore 65 and the triumph 60. Very different amps sound wise but liked them. They seem way undervalued on the market. I missed the boat on them when I was younger due to being mesmerized by the “wall of Marshalls â€...Can anyone give me a primer on vintage peavey tube amps and their tonal characteristics?

As far as I'm concerned it's Fender for tubes and Peavey for solid state.

| My primary gigging amp for about the last year or so has been the Encore 65. Absolutely surprising clean head room. Doesn't have the booming low end of a Session or Nashville, but very warm and round. Has a presence control which is a must for me.. Tube reverb. I've been running it in a Nash 400 cabinet with a Neo BW 1501. Just picked up a Travis Toy speaker and looking forward to checking that out. Talked to Tube Depot about what I was looking to do tone wise and he hooked me up. Pure tube tone and weighs less than a stock Nash 400. Until I can afford a Little Walter, I can't see myself moving off of this amp. |

Don't forget the Peavey Artist 240 or VT. Solid state front end with tube power on back end--4 6L6s.

| One of my late friends used a Peavey Mace Combo for pedal steel. It was 160 watts, six 6L6's, w/ a solid-state preamp. Loud...and unGODly heavy with two 12" Gauss speakers! |

| I have a Peavey classic 30 that is wonderful. It's tube, 30 watts, small and not too heavy. Everyone who plays on it wants it. All stock with no mods. I also have a Peavey classic 50 4x10 which is a back breaker to carry and killer tone. While I have a load of Fender tube stuff the Peavey Classic 30 is the most used for Telecaster duty. |

The Peavey classic 50 was also made with a single 15†speaker. I would be curious about this one with a proven steel 15†speaker. I was always curious about that one. Anyone know what Ohms that stock 15†is ?
Ive got a lot of steel friendly 15†speakers hanging around. If the ohms match up, would it be a contender ? |
