Can anyone enlighten me on the Springfield Pedal Steel? I have seen one advertised and never heard of the make before and I wonder if they are a 'well- made' instrument?Where made? A beginners instrument? any advise?

Much apreciated.

They were made in Port Glasgow, Scotland in the early eighties. The small factory closed after a few years due to lack of demand. I can't comment on the quality of workmanship or play-ability, as I have not seen one up close.
Cheers, Arch.

The guy who made them was Jim Kerr.
When I resided in Livingston he lived near me and was just starting out.
At that time I did'nt know anything about pedal steel and I went round to his house with a view to buying but his price was a bit too much for me at the time(£400)this was about 1976.
I heard many years later that they were prone to tuning problems, never actually met anyone who owned one.
best regards
Billy

Found it hard to keep in tune so stripped it out and now have it as a 10 string C6 and it works well, not used it on stage , just pick around at home, and still have the pedals and a few undercarriage parts.
