I remember listening to all the featured steel solos on the old Rebel and Ricky site from back in the day. (Sorry, folks; I wasn't there for the original records. I'm a '74 model and will just have to take what I can get! Very Happy

) The non-pedal steel featured on Hank Thompson records seemed to stand head and shoulders above much of the rest from the era.

Began his career at age 14 with a then unknown Jim Reeves. Joined Hank Thompson's band in 1960, prior to that he was a member of Ernest Tubb's 'Texas Troubadours'. He can be heard on the recording titled:"Ernest Tubb Record Shop"(interesting side note: the six string guitarist on that session was Buddy Emmons).
