This morning there are 5 active topics about shipping via UPS, DHL, etc.

I don't mind an occassional diversion here, especially for something as important as shipping steel guitars, but 5 topics?!

This kind of thing happens all the time. Just an example are the recent threads on Martina's Timeless CD. Over the last couple of month's, there are probably at least 4 or 5 , with a few at the same time when the CD was first released. I agree that people should post to an already active topic. I will usually read all the posts that were made since the last time I logged on before I create a new post to make sure someone hasn't already poted about the topic first. Chances are, if something has created an interest enough in me to post a topic, it probably has to someone else too. Of course we can't expect people to do a search for a topic that maybe has drifted way down the topic list either.

First off, we had all better understand and agree that UPS does not pack anything..

A UPS store is a contracted 2nd/3rd party who offers UPS and others services for shipping. IF you leave something for those people to pack..let me say this very clearly..

You are on your own...

Why would anyone leave a Steel or an amp or anything of value for a counter worker who has no clue what it is they are packing to take care of ?

Yesterday the didn't have a job, today they work for a UPS Store..or Mailboxes...and they are now a packing expert ?

The standard method of packing in these MAILBOXES/UPS Stores is to put it in a box and fill the box with peanuts, which settle to about 1/4 box half way thru the delivery cycle.

IF these places are doing your packing then shipped UPS or any other carrier, and are damaged...

IT IS NOT THE FAULT OF UPS !

guys, use some common sense here...

These people do not work for UPS or any other carrier, they work for a subcontracted 3nd party source.

Don't believe me ? Ask them who they work for....

We are so quick to jump on the carrier...

Perhaps if the packages were in fact packed correctly they would make it to the other end...

I am amazed at some of the threads we are reading recently where we are laying blame on the carrier when in many cases issues coud have been avoided with some thought and care in packaging.

I am not talking about lost in transit here..

I read where some of us feel that BRUTS are picking up packages and hurling them,...how many BRUTS do we think are working in these places that can pick up an 80 pound D10 and hurl it to another BRUT to catch it ? How about a 75 pound TWIN in a big box ?

Bringing your items to one of those local Shipping stores to be packaged..now thats something we just should not be doing..

thats like asking the kid next door to come pack your stuff and send it for you...

"A UPS store is a contracted 2nd/3rd party who offers UPS and others services for shipping."

Not any more. When they changed from Mail Boxes Etc. to "The UPS Store" they discontinued all shipping except UPS and the US mail as part of the deal. UPS also took control of the counter rates, which is good, but does not control packing like they do at their counters, which is bad.

Where can I get a flight case or road case for a Bud D 10? This could be a case that just the steel and its parts fits into, or a bigger one that I could put the Bud case in, which measures 40 X 17 X 8.

the UPS store that I drop to ships FED EX, US Mail and I think DHL...not sure about that one but there is another lable drop area...

they are the UPS Store...Go figure...

The FED EX guy sometimes helps my wife take the UPS packages in..

but thats not really important here..if you let THEM pack it..that is trouble..they are not experienced packers..they are counter folks who run Credit Cards and manage shipping lables...

they fill boxes with peanuts...

I don't know.

It seems to be kind of a rhetorical plea for topical consolidation or amalgamation of some type.

That's just the way it hit me...

You beat me to it Rick. B0B Can't win. But at least he got someone to hit the reply button on this one!

We've got comments on a guitar on e-bay in at least two threads at the moment as well.

Peace! maybe better to wrap this one up before it gets out of hand.

Actually I have an unproved theory that more people read locked posts than live ones so they can see what controversy caused the post to be locked up!!!
