On a different thread (which I won't distract from with this discussion), John Swain pointed out some options for getting a C# and a Bb on the C6 neck by doing splits with whole tone raises on P7 along with half tone lowers.

I hadn't thought about getting those tones as splits, as I have dedicated KLs to do both of those. But if one gets them via splits, it would free up some KLs (albeit at the expense of having (at least in my case) to use both a pedal and a KL to get them, at which point I might be either giving up some combinations or else having to go to 2 feet to get everything I want). Hmmmm... this hurts my head to think about.
John, are you getting these notes via splits? If so, how do you like the arrangement?
Other people doing it and care to weigh in...?

I split pedal seven with the C to B lower. I split pedal seven with the A to G# lower. I also tune the splits on the 9th and 10th strings for when I combine pedal 5 & 8. You will most likely need to increase the travel of the lowering pulls to achieve the desired pitches. The splits increase position and chord voicing options.

Jim,On the subject of splits. On E9 I split my 5th and 10th with my vertical. When tuning the vertical a half step down to A# do you find the A# to be some what flat to be in tune with strings 8 and 6?

Thanks for bringing this up - it hadn't occurred to me!
I just tuned the split with P7 and 3rd string-lower; my 4th string lower (LKV) actually splits with P7 pretty close to in-tune without adjustment.
I'm not sure yet where I'll incorporate these but it can't hurt to have them available.

| Jim,I know DJ gets his C# on str3 with a split. I don't but definitely use p7 and str4 lower to F to Fm on 10th fret. |

Strings 3 & 4 on C6 are equivalent to 5 & 6 on the uni, which I have to optimise for E9. The string 3/5 split works with pedals A and 7 because the bottom note (A#) is the same. On string 4/6 (bottom note F#) the P7 split works by accident on my Excel but not on my Williams.
But non-fancy B6 will occupy me for the foreseeable.....
