My good friend Junior Mercer was kind enough to sort out a few problems on my Emmons a few months ago.

While we were ruminating over various possibilities I had a rush of blood and asked if he'd switch my old 'Isaacs' pedal 4 (that's raising the 5th and 6th to C# and A respectively) and make it a sort-of 'Franklin pedal'.

It made me nervous because I love the old pull - a 4 chord over a 5th note on the 10th string - but, in practice, I now almost have the best of both worlds. Lowering 5 and 6 means that 4th note (A) is now on string 5 with the G# right there on the 3rd string. And my beloved B note is right there on string 10 because I'm not lowering 10 along with 5 and 6 (I lower the 10th to an A on RKL along with lowering the 5th string a half-step).

There's one major disappointment in all this - my 'split' on the 5th string (A pedal with B to Bb on RKL) is no longer accurate and I have to half-pedal if I want an in-tune half-stop.

Am I right in thinking that I'd need another rod to correct this now that my pedal 4 lowers my 5th a whole-tone?

Yes, with a B to A pedal that takes over the max-lower adjustment, You will need an extra rod on the B to Bb lever to raise the Bb on its own slightly to get a split to C in perfect tune.
