A friend of mine has a ZumSteel with a serial number much different than discribed earlier. His serial number is 15114. Does anyone know if the formula for the serial numbers had changed at some point. |

Paul that doesn't sound right to me --- the serial number on mine is stamped on the inside of the endplate at the keyhead end and is D1099xxx thats a D10 with 9 pedals and 9 knees then the sequential number indicating what number guitar it is !! Unless your friends is a real early one with a different numbering regime ? perhaps he should have another look under the hood. |

We took another look and the serial number is as we have stated. Maybe the guitar is a touch older than we thought it might be. The serial number was on the endplate under the keyhead on the guitar. Any help in helping us find the manufacturing date would certainly be appreciated. |

Paul, the older Zums had round cross shafts Later ones, are square.

I have an old Zum with serial number SD1255xx.The last two numbers are below 50.The serial number is not located on the end plates but is near the center of the guitar on the angle bracket that supports the round cross shafts.I have a newer Zum and the serial number is on the end plate. |

What John said.
Most builders welcome your phone calls. That includes the nice folks at Carter Guitars. The great thing about this Forum is you have access to the right people, don't hesitate to call on them. |
