I used to be able to set my pedal at any volume and take my foot off and it would stay there . The pedal I now use wants to turn itself off and I need to keep my foot on it .I'm thinking it has the wrong spring in it ....... any ideas ? A photo of an original pedal would be nice if anyone has the time

Brendan, have you changed the pot? It sounds to me that the cord is running straight from the spring to wrapping around the pulley and is not going thru the guide hole down under the pulley. With the pedal upside down the string should tie to the spring, go thru the stationary guide hole which is almost hidden by the pulley, then it wraps around the pulley a couple of turns then around the anchor screw. You need to hold some tension on the spring and pull the cord tight. You can adjust action of the pot (where the volume comes on) by putting increased tension on the spring which releases tension on the cord, turn the pulley as needed and release the spring.
