I have limited musical knowledge and I'm very new to the pedal steel. I'm trying to learn how to tune my S10,3P(CBA) Guitar. I'm experiencing a few problems tuning the pedals.

1.When I try tuning the pedal for the 10th String B to C#, the hex nut can't be tightened any farther than to D# tuning.

2. When I turn some of the hex nuts to tune the other pedals, the hex nut turns but the tuning doesn't change.

3. What does tuning up and tuning down mean i.e. B to C#;G# to A.... tuning up or down? Just want to make sure, I'm turning the hex nuts in the right direction per the instructions I have.

I hope this makes some sense and as always thank you very much for whatever advice you can provide.

Best.

What guitar??

If it's an all-pull guitar, meaning all pedals have shafts and bellcranks that the pull rods hook to, pull the changer fingers instead of pushing them. Back off all of those nylon tuners so the pedals/levers don't raise or lower the string. Then tune the guitar open. Next, tune the nylon nuts to their raised or lowered note. Turning the nut clockwise makes the finger move farther. On a raise, that makes the note go higher, and the lower go lower. Make sure that when you get that pedal tuned, that the open note doesn't change. That is called over-tuning. if so, back off that tuning nut again, and make the pedal/lever travel a hair farther, and tune the pedal/lever again.

This must be a typo. If it is pulling to a D#, it's way over tuned.

Where in California are you located?

Thanks Richard.

Info:

It's a Marlen S10,3+3. I think it's a Push-Pull but not sure. I've read where it might be a Push-Release. I don't know. I've also read the nylon nuts tune the knee levers. I haven't started on those yet.

I live in Bakersfield and will probably have Larry Petree help me too when he's available.

Thanks again.

Probably a pull release. Definitely have Larry look at it. Good luck.
