hi all, been enjoying my carter starter and one of the tuning machines has a real big dead spot in it so you can go almost 3/4 of s turn without it moving anything at all, and of course its right where you want it. so im gonna have to replace it i guess, any recommendations for that and do you need special sized tuning machines or just standard tuning machines.

on a side note, can you use locking tuners on a pedal steel?

I got some 0935 Economy Covered Gear 3+3 Tuners from StewMac about 2 years ago for $22 a set. (2 sets gives you a spare LH & RH). They are a direct replacement but only slightly better than the originals. Of course StewMac has lots of better tuners for any budget...

measure the shaft length and the shaft diameter first. They are all not the same !

Words of wisdom from Tony. The ones I mentioned above are same shaft L/D as the originals. Even the mounting screw holes line up, so no drilling necessary. If you upgrade to some better tuners, check the measurements first.
