I've never heard of a LeGrande I, unles you mean the SKH or just plain old "Lashley LeGrande". Only difference between II & III is III has the counter force device on the changer which supposedly minimizes cabinet drop.

fair question, they are for all practice purposes the same instrument, they are all the same ALL PULL Emmons design.

BUT,

Legrande, Lashley Legrande, uses 4 hole bell cranks, some had the short key head. ( SKH)

LII's use updated 14 hole bell cranks

LIII's use 14 hole bell cranks and has the option of the counter force added.

It is not uncommon to see some LII's and maybe even some LIII's using the 4 hole bell cranks in certain locations of the pull system , re: levers or part of a pull chain.

They are all exceptional Steel guitars in my mind. Never pass on an early Legrande because it's not a II or III.

.

I think the only difference between a II and III is the counterforce. If there is a counterforce it is a III.
