Has anyone used bronze Dobro strings on a lap steel? I have an old beater lap steel that I would like to use with an EQ to simulate a dobro sound and wonder if the bronze strings would work better than nickle strings. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . If they're Phos/Bronze strings may not have enough magnetic properties to drive the mag pickup.

How do they work on dobros that have a mounted pickup? _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

The Lace dobro pickup is designed for PB strings. If not the Lace then nickel wound is the preferred string for other dobro mag pickups. |

That being said, the PB strings may work well enough for you. It's a $6.00 experiment.

Richard I have tried Pb strings several times on the lap steels non pedal consoles didn't do much for me. They didn't work well and didn't sound at all good.Thats my 2 cents worth good luck |

Thanks guys. It's probably best to stick with nickel. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |
