I play my non-pedal steel guitars every week for two or three solo performances.
But because the pedal steel takes a little while to set up, and I have to get in and get out all by myself. I don't play it often.

This week it was so nice to use my big amp with a 15" JBL and Fender Vibratone {Leslie} with a 12" Altec.

My homebuilt cabinet with the big 15" really cranked and sounded clean and full. The Leslie was wonderful to simulate an organ and fill out the harmony vocals.

The congregation loved it, and I was blessed as well.

Did you add the 12" Altec yourself or did you buy it that way? I did that to one I had in New England in the 70s but left it behind when I moved to Texas. I always wondered what happened to it. I also modified the electronics and switching with a solenoid.

I added the 12" Altec myself, I had to modify the back of the cabinet to fit it.

The original Jensen was muddy, and I was afraid it would blow at the high volumes I was playing back then. (the 1970's) It's actually a full range PA speaker, and it can handle 200w. Over the years it has held up amazingly, it is loud and clean.

I got rid of the splitter, and I send the full range of frequencies to the Leslie. Depending on the amp and other speakers I use with it, It can growl (small tube amp cranked) or project loud clean organ tones that fill a church (100 watt SS amp)

You can see the leslie at 1:05 and hear it thru the whole song...

The original tolex was ripped from years on the road, so I replaced it in the 80's, then in the 90's a friend of mine covered it with indoor/outdoor carpet, which is still very nice looking.

I watched the video expecting to see you playing solo in church modern day and instead it was a pro band in church in the 70's. Contemporary Christian music has nothing on that! So very cool! Haha! It's a great sound for sure. Do you still play the same steel as in the video?

Justin, no sadly I sold that double neck Fender when I bought my Shobud LDG. I wish I hadn't let it go.

Same here, Justin. I decided to see if there was anything else by the band on youtube and found a whole self-titled album. Great stuff, Dom, especially this one:
