This is a dumb basic question, but- Is there a conventional way to get the second scale degree on the C6 neck, either by raising string 7 (C) a whole step, or lowering string 5 (E) a whole step? If you were to put this change on a Push Pull, how would you set it up? I’d like to be able to play a major scale without moving the bar. Thanks! |

Bar movement is part of the C6 idiom, unlike E9. To lower strings 5 & 6 a whole tone, move the bar back two frets and engage P7 to keep 3 & 4 at the same pitch (ii7 chord). _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Ahhh, interesting. That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Can I come hassle you next time I’m home and check that out? There are three levers working the back neck on that P/P. Coming from linear fiddle brain, it just drives me crazy to not that that second scale degree right there... |

I also vote for lowering String 6.
In my case, I lower String 6 a whole step with Pedal 6, along with the String 2 raise. I don't do the half-step lower on Pedal 6 because I lower Both Strings 2 & 6 a half step with a lever (I prefer that 9th chord having a high 7b on String 2).
This variation gives me a lot more chordal possibilities than the factory setup. But, I can't speak for how this would factor in to a Push-Pull.
If you're willing to add levers, there are more possibilities, but I like to just alter what's already there... even if it's non-conventional. |

The lowering the E to D thing makes a lot of sense. I’ll need to figure out how that would fit on my guitar. I don’t have a LKR, so maybe adding that is the thing to do? |

Try adding the 6th string lower to Pedal 8 (7#9 pedal)
On my all pull Rains I simply added an extra pull rod to the string 7 1/2 tone raise bell crank. This addition has double or even tripled my pedal 8 usage. Some people add it elsewhere the string 6 whole tone lower opens up the C6 neck for loads of modern voices.
Check out the c6 setup for Tommy White and Paul Franklin for other ways to implement this wonderful change. _________________ I'd rather be pickin' |
