Here's a shot at a real nice steel break by Randy Beavers on Lee Ann Womack's "You're Still On My Mind". This is taken from Lee Ann's visit to the Marty Stuart Show in 2012. Questions, comments, and corrections always welcome.
***UPDATE***The tab now reflects the changes to show the way cool "Hal Rugg" lick at the bottom of Page 1. Special thanks to Randy Beavers, Dag Wolf, Randy Schneider, and Dave Zornes for the info.
NOTE: E Lever lowers string 2 one-half tone
Enjoy the music!
Here it is on youtube, Randy's break is at 1:25

Nice selection, Jeff. I hadn't heard that one. And video of the solo to help out, too!
Thanks for all of your efforts...

Jeff I hear a Hal Rugg lick that Randy is getting. But for the life of me I cannot get that. What section of the tab is he getting that Hal Rugg run? |

Thanks, Randy...
Hey David, I have beat this thing to death and I know it could still be better. I think I'm OK up to the 11th fret on the last line of Page 1. After that, though, if you watch the video slow, I don't think Randy goes higher than the 13th fret and then works his way down but I can't find the notes I'm hearing at 13 unless I take it up to the 15th fret. I've also tried BC up there. The way I wrote it there's quite a gap sound-wise between 13AB and dropping down to 8 on Page 2. So let me know if you find it |

Jeff,
Isn't that similar to Weldon's lick on Connie Smith's "Where Is My Castle"?
Great stuff. Thanks for figuring this out and posting.

Rick - Thank you for the kind words. I think you're absolutely correct about the lick. Great steel on "Where Is My Castle?" as well.
Here it is on youtube

Dale - Thank you very much. I really enjoy figuring things out from recordings - in my own "play by ear" way |

I had a lot of fun with this one Jeff, thanks for tabbing it!
One little detail though, I think the F chord at the beginning of the second staff of tabs is actually F7, so instead of sliding from fret 12 to 13 on strings 5-4-3, I would try string 5-3-2 with the 2nd string lowered a half step. That dominant 7th really signals we're going to the IV chord, in this case Bb.
Great stuff! |

Thanks Alex! And I like your F7 suggestion...that 7th adds just the right amount of "harshness" to lead to the IV chord. |
