Topic: Help with "G" lever on a Franklin. |

| Glad the forum is back up and running. I'm new here and haven't been playing pedal steel very long. 21+ years on guitar though. Anyway, in the books I have the G lever is supposed to raise the 7 & 1 strings or the F#s to get a 7th chord with the A & B pressed. I have a Franklin single neck E9 and the G lever raises 1 a half and whole step and lowers 6 a half and whole step. Kinda screws up that 7th chord for me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

You can change it around if you want to. Not that hard. You will have to loosen the puller for the 6th string and move it to be in line with the 7th string. You will have to change the leverage on the 1st string to get the full tone pull.

I don't have that setup on my Franklin D-10, it is similar to what you have now. My RKL raises string 1 a full tone, string 2 a half tone and lowers 6 a full tone with a half tone split with the B pedal. This is a fairly common knee lever combination. |

I would gladly lose that 7th chord for what you can get with what is already on there. YMMV  |

| Jason, when your playing your guitar,try playing a chord with the A & B pedal down. Play strings 5,6,8 pedals down, right after you play the chord release the B pedal,and lower your 6th string a half tone, and see if you like that one. |

This is an old trick, but instead of using the "G" lever on the 1st string for the 7th, try hooking your 2nd finger of your left hand over the 1st string and manually pull the string up one half tone.... you will hear this used by many classic players like Mooney and Green... and it's really kind of fun. (I know this doesn't address your use of the 6th string, but give it a try for kicks).
