Wow even I get calls to record on peoples songs!
Three songs, they sent me the exisiting tracks the other day to play along with...
Everything but Steel is already done, thankfully!
The first song is a mid tempo Outlaw/Honky-Tonk song with female vocals.
It starts with a big open ringing E-chord...
Then the woman sings...
It's hard to drink,
When I'm...
Drive'iiiiinnnn! (everyone in on a big 5-chord)!
'Round that olllll' country road
Around the laaaake... (back to the 1-chord)
Funn Stuff!
I can't wait!

I'm gonna post these songs as soon as possible.
You guys are gonna love these songs.
I just played along with all three one more time, and I am so happy!
One song is mid-tempo country single-mom heart-ripper-outter where the theme line is:
I know I've
Got to make it
On my own
One thing at a time.
In the bridge it says:
One thing at a time
Is all, that I can do
Do this thing
Fix that thing
Tie the baby's shooooooooe
Again.
The third song is called "We Must Be Out Of Our Minds"!
About a secret romance meetup... with alternating male/female vocal lines. |

It went good!
They asked me to come back Friday to do a few more songs
This is pre-production for a higher level recording to be done later.
They still made me record bone dry.
I didn't let it bug me.
I used the MCI, and it sounded real good in the mix. |

Will they mix in some delay or verb later?
I really struggle with the dry sound, when I record I ask them to give me some verb in the mix without recording it.

That's great Pete! Would this have been the same song? It's an oldie but a goodie, that's for sure.

Dave, They put reverb on it while they were playing it back. So it sounded better already.
The guy told me he would make a mix and email it to me tonight. So i will up load those to Pico-Song or something and post them here asap.
Uhhh... One "reality" that always seems to sneak up on me, is... This is not a "Pedal Steel Guitar" record! [darn].
It's a Country project featuring song-writing with clever "Hooks", and mainly Female vocals, with Steel in the mix.
I played alot of Steel on these songs though.
I told the producer a story about how one time when the final mix came out, the Steel was still bone dry (they completely forgot about me)!
He laaaaaughed. Uugh.
Donny, That is the same song title (I will ask them about it Friday) but a completely different song.
The two main folks wrote all the songs.
I like that song you posted, too!
Who is that Steel player???
Thier vision is to have 1-set of catchy Country originals to play around town.
I told them to count me in on the gigs.
We have alot of places here in Portland that have two or three bands a night that all play one set each (usually heavey on originals). Something along those lines.
I played almost everything with the A and/or B pedals and E-raise/lower levers.
They liked my Harmonics.
The MCI does Harmonics really well. Better than my Sierra (which I also brought along, in case).
After the whole thing was over I noticed the guy mic'd my JBL cab about a foot away, but pretty close to dead center of the cone. I will try to get it off the cone on Friday.
I thought it sounded pretty treble-ee!... but really had it's own place in the mix.
I was in the control room so I was only hearing the monitors.

I just got an email saying:
"Here are some very rough mixes of today's session".
Ouch I think I may have oversold the whole thing, now!
I think I need to fix a few spots (they said I could anything I want, over)!
Give me sec to upload...
I wish it sounded like your rig, Dicky!
Darn the Steel and everything is still very dry, but...
Here is the first one.

Song two:

Song three:

They said they are going to have a drummer redo all of the scratch drum tracks.
They just sent me three more songs to prep for for Friday |

Love your fill work behind the vocals. The tone of your guitar is right on the money for that material. |

Thanks, Kevin!
I kinda came away from that Session feeling like I lost Round-1!
Thr Steel sounded so phenomally better in my living room where I had been playing along.
I am back there at 10:30 this morning! |

This is from yesterdays session.
I play backup Steel pretty much from beginning to end on this one.
A male/female Duet called, This Ol' Marriage:
https://picosong.com/wmzwr/
I hate these scratch vocals, but they let me play Steel through this one, too.
They asked for a Travis/Atkins style solo, which I played and they took the first take.
Too Damn Bad:
https://picosong.com/wmzkc/
More slide-ee Steel-ee stuff...
The Writing On The Wall:
https://picosong.com/wmzYV
These are all Demos for a more official recording later. |

I know! There is something about her voice that grabs me on some of these tunes.
I was thinking she sounds like Iris Dement on John Prines "In Spite Of Ourselves".
Thanks for liking the Steel |
