Had this topic in Electronics, but got no hits. Wonder if anyone can help out:

I noticed this old post:
" bought an old Pro, unfortunately the previous owner had it wired to one 3 position switch that goes from front neck (with a huge hum), to both necks and the last position is back neck also with a huge hum."
I have an old Shobud permanent that's been wired up this way. The volume/tone knobs have been disconnected and the coil tap switches ( if there were any) seem to be removed. 2 questions:
Does anyone know why people did this mod?

I only saw that one question above:

They may of put in different pickups at one time.
They may of wanted to by-pass the vol/tone and coil tap switch; to get rid of anything between the pickups and switch and input jack(which can be a good thing for better signal).
One of the pots or coil tap switch could of been going bad; so they got rid of that in line or all of the above.
As for the old post above that; which is talking about someone bought an old Pro; wired right to the 3-way switch and it humming> was that a question?
If so; I can think of another handful of reasons that's happening too....but I would need to know more info:
What pickups are they?
How many wires come from each pickup?
Are the pickups grounded properly to the changer?
Is the switch wired properly between the top and bottom of the switch itself?
Is the switch wired properly to the proper prong of the input jack?

I just included that post mainly because I'm getting the same hum on the left/right positions. These positions also seem to have much more bass and are louder, even with the hum.

| Assuming the pickups are the original single-coils, then when the switch is in the centre position both pickups are connected together, and act as a humbucker, thus less hum, but also reduced signal. |
