This looks really good in the picture and if you are looking for a collector piece to hang on the wall or display with other instruments, then this might be good for you. I have owned many old lap steels like this and used them on stage. Typically they have worn or broken tuners that need to be fixed, or weak pickups that need to be repaired or replace. I'm not saying that this particular unit has those problems, but they are very common. Old and "vintage" does not mean better. the reissue Electar is incredible and as a serious player I highly recommend it. I has a sweet tone and works well onstage or in the studio. http://www.epiphone.com/News/Features/2015/Epiphone-Electar-Inspired-by-1939-Century-Lap-Steel.aspx _________________ http://jimfiegen.com |

I think it looks like a good deal, especially with the hard case. I've gigged a fair amount with my Model C from the same era and I've been very happy with it. I paid the same for it as that Zephyr is going for and the Zephyr is probably a step or two up the rung from my Model C.

These typically hold up quite well. Epiphone's tuners are actually one of the better vintage designs out there, and they're no more prone to weakened pickups than any other brands. The Zephyr was a moderately nice instrument at the time, and is certainly built much better than the Century reissue.
The price is about right given the condition, which is not exceptional. If you're looking for a knock-around steel, it's a great choice. |

I love the sound of this guitar. The date codes in the pots were '38. _________________ Bob, small o. |
