The NS Micro violin tuner sits very nicely on the guitar with its cam-type closing mechanism. I love my Peterson clip on, but the jaws aren’t wide enough to bite the Clinesmith. So, for those of us who need a little help dialing in... this is very inexpensive and not too intrusive. We fiddlers use them all the time.

This is very helpful. I just strung up a new homemade 10 string with a similar peg head and had to use a plug-in tuner. Since I'll be playing it on my lap or standing dobro style, a clip-on is much handier.

It’s pricey but the Peterson Stroboclip is a great tuner. On my cast aluminum I just clip it to the volume knob And it works perfectly. On my frypan it fits nicely on the headstock. It also has a couple of built-in sweeteners that are great.

On my cast Clinesmith, I attach it like this and find it is less likely to fall or get knocked off.
I gotta tell you though, I've been using the Peterson phone app and it was fine for awhile but started acting up. I broke down and bought the Peterson Strobo Plus HD. I REALLY like it a lot. It is like having the perfect wrench for the nut instead of a pair of pliers.
But the clip on is sure nice for quick on the fly tuning.

....and speaking of tuning, how many of you tune those Clinesmith's to A6? I've been messing around with making the 8th string b7 instead of a 6th note and it really opens up some stuff that I do with the guys that I sit in with. I guess, at least in theory, it is what Junior Brown does. Fat to skinny: G-A-C#-E-F#-A-C#-E
Sorry for the topic drift.....but it is tuning related Rolling Eyes

junior does it in C but you’re right, same difference. I like the same as Junior’s but with the third on top and a low C, aka Jules Ah Se’s C13.
I find that with tuners you get what you pay for. The cheapies drift around too much for me. Petersons lock on quickly and are very accurate.

Just thought I'd mention Peterson Tuner's are having a 20% off sale with free shipping for a few days more. I ordered a "StroboPlus HD" tuner last night and saved almost $30.00.

My other clip on tuners were not on the same page with each other I noticed and I wanted something I could program my preferred offset tunings as my own presets. Also, I do guitar and bass refrets and setup's and this tuner should help with that as well.

I use the newer Peterson Clip on both my Clinesmith Joaquin (the new slightly bigger jaws fit) and my frypan now. That's such a great tuner...
