One of the BEST AMPS ever. I have two of them, one with a Telonics speaker & the other with a made for Peavey JBL. Black Widow speaker sounds great in them too. You won't go wrong with this amp. I would buy in a heart beat but I don't play out anymore so why buy and stick in the closet. Good luck on your sale Mark. Should not stick around very long. J.R. JR,
Thanks for the reference on this amp. This amp has original black widow speaker still intact.
It is absolute KILLER for fiddle as well as steel.
Lots of power packed into the smaller chassis. _________________ Mark Twang |

Why is this Peavey LTD 400 better than other Peaveys? What's the significance of silver knobs? _________________ Sho Bud Super Pro, Fender Twin Reissue, Martin HD-28, Gibson J-45, Gibson RB-250,Stelling Bellflower,Regal Dobro, Takamine and Alvarez Classical, Fender Telecaster, Peavey Studio Pro 112. Wayne, I cannot give you a reason for these amps sounding better, but as always a lot of that is in the ears of the listener. I have been using Peavey Amps since 1982 and have used Session 500, Session 400, Session 400 Limited and got my first new LTD 400 in middle 80's. The LTD400 is a lot smaller cabinet and easier to handle and with a light weight speaker it is a lot easier on your back. And it still sounds GREAT. And maybe my comment that it sounds better is not quite correct, it sounds as good and most times better than the Session 5oo which I still have but it takes a wrecker truck to move the 500. And the LTD does have a 15"Speaker. I have had several LTD400's due to them being stolen and I now have three like I really need three amps along with a Session 500,ha!! But I think a lot of old timers think of the Session 500 as THE AMP, just too heavy. And too answer your question about the Silver Knobs they are the earlier years and I do not know for sure when they changed to the knobs that were black with white markings. I have both and cannot tell any difference in the sound but you have those that think their is a difference. And I am not an authoritative on this subject, just my years of use and experienced. J.R. Thank you JR for that information. Guess if you have 3 of them and a 500 you can do steel surround sound, huh....😃.

John The LTD and the older Session 400 are basically the same amp circuit wise. The Session is in a bigger cabinet. The Session 400 LImited is an all together different newer amp. Some do play steel with them but I find them to be harsh sounding compared to the LTD. And Session 400. The LTD and Session 400 were made in the 70’s and probably early 80’s. The Session 400 Limited were made in the later 80’s and maybe 90’s and were made for steel guitar but I personally don’t think they can cut it for steel. _________________ Henry Matthews

Henry, thanks.
So the Session 400 and Session 400 LTD are the same amp, with the LTD being a smaller cabinet. From the 70’s and early 80’s.
The Session 400 Limited is a different amp, made in the 80’s and 90’s, that does not sound as good.
