HERE IT IS!!!

Bob White’s 1953 Bigsby wood neck 10-10-8!

This guitar can be heard on countless Hank Thompson recordings.

Bob White pioneered the 10 string steel guitar, originated scores of enduring licks and riffs, introduced the Major 7th and Major 9th pedal changes and brought a modern sound to Hank Thompson’s Brazos Valley Boys.

In 2001 Bob White sold this guitar to his good friend Ben Jack and since then it has remained in the Jack family collection.

This legendary instrument is now offered for sale.

$25,000

So great to see this historical steel in detail, as all I have seen are old black and whites from the 50's.

It appears Paul Bigsby did an upgrade on this steel at some point (early) in it's life.

Good luck with the sale.

Todd, this post from Peewee Whitewing explains the pedals were added by Paul Bigsby while Bob and Peewee were recording at Hollywood CBS in 1953.

What a piece of HISTORY. Every steel player knows what Bob White did with this guitar. Still looks in amazing good condition. I saw Bob White in later years at the old Crossroads Club in Fort Smith, Ark. Stood right in front of him and watched intently and caught every lick he made,ha-ha!! I wish. He was a very nice Gentleman and always willing to talk to you. Good luck on your sale Mrs Ben Jack, I knew Ben well also. J.R. Rose

Amazing. Paul Warnik should buy this and get the band back together! (He’s got Pee Wee’s)

I guess I should search first, ask later...

Interesting info on the tuning here. Looking at the pictures, it may not match what is in the thread but it seems close? P1 looks like it is on the middle neck whereas the tuning chart in the thread shows it as pedal 5. I just love this thing. So very cool.

No offers on the Bob White Bigsby so it will go back into the family collection for now. Thanks to all who posted and shared their enthusiasm for this historic guitar.

Re / those loooooong “stand up-n-play” pedal rods!

I don't see any pedal rod 'retainer clips' on the pedal rack and / or string pulling mechanisms.

How did pedal rods stay attached to a Bigsby?

I have no idea of when this was recorded. I have had for a long time. Jeff Newman wrote the credits. Bobby Neal was the lead guitar picker who was killed in the Reba plane crash. He worked in Ben Jack's Guitar store. This was recorded by Ben Jack at his Bejay Studio. MSA guitar at this time and Fender Vibrosonic Amp 15". I heard him play these and it was over the top. Wish I could share this with you folks but do not know how. J.R.
