Hello All
I was at Paul Franklin Sr. house today and he was telling me about Rain Steel Guitars. He spoke VERY highly of these guitars. Does anyone have any info on this brand? URL maybe?
Thanks Mike Scaggs

Mike,
I just got my new rains, and I am blown away! Paul Sr. had mentioned the rains guitar to me at the Texas show last year but I never got around to playing one while I was there. Then my buddy Gaylon Mathews had one that i played and I really liked it. I played my new Rains last night for the first time with Lonestar and it exceeded my expectations. It plays ALOT like the Frankln that I had for a long time, and regret selling. It has the most round full bottom end, without getting muddy, that I have ever heard, and sustains for days. infact if you listen real close it may still be sustaining from last night. Seriously, you owe it to yourself to give these guitars a listen, I love mine. If you are going to be around, I will be playing Wednesday the 2nd at 8 pm at 12th a Porter there in Nashville with a new duo in town called BrittonJack. Come out and take a look at the guitar. In fact, I have nothing going on that day so if you want to get together sometime earlier and play mine you are welcome to. Just let me know. |

Hi Jeremy
I might just make it out Weds to see you. How long you been with Lonestar? I sold a flight case to a guy with Lonestar out in San Jose, CA. about 9 years ago at a club called the Saddle Rack. Bot, that place had some stories! I took my Franklin over to Paul today for the ole 100,000 mile tune-up. She is still playing good but it did need a little tweak here and there. I sure like that guitar, sounds and plays great. Too bad I ended up with an ugly color but Franklins are so hard to find I took what I could get. Paul told me today that there is a 2 year wait on his guitars. He also mentioned that he may stop building soon (bummer)... Talk to you soon and maybe I'll see ya at 12th

I think it's great that Mr. Franklin is praising a competitor's guitar. It shows what a true gentleman he is.

I have had my padded blue Spirit model (like the picture on Bob's web site) for a little over 6 months and , not taking to changes very often, am totally happy with changing over to playing it from my 70's Sho Bud . It's as close to the tone as any I've heard and the playability and quality workmanship and simplicity of design is tops in my opinion. I reccommend it to anyone wanting quality. Oh yea---it's a lot lighter for this old man too ! |

Boys I told my good friend Bob Rains about a year and a half ago to put his seatbelt on good and tight cause this Steel Guitar was gonna take off like a rocket, every day more and more folks are discovering the Rains Steel Guitar and recognizing its full rich tone and ever lasting sustain. Then when you raise the hood and look at the clean and thoughtful craftsmenship that goes into all the Rains pedal steel's, you begin to understand why they are taking off like a rocket.
I found the tone I'd been looking for about a year and a half ago and thats when I signed on to represent and sell these guitars at the show around the country and I promiss you, I would'nt be doing this if I did'nt beleive in them. And i'll tell you something else too, you won't find a better family to deal with in this field than the Rains family.
I love these Guitars and I guess it shows, but you owe it to yourself to look into these Pedal Steel Guitars and try one out.
Now, visit us on the websites or call and we'll talk about em for a spell.
Thanks to listening to me babble on.

I'm sure if Paul Franklin SR, says this is a good guitar then it has to be. But I would like to repeat something, I have already said in another Tread. They were two people I mentioned and Paul Franklin SR, was one of them. Folks you can always tell a true Craftman's, he is confident in his craft and the way it is constructed. And the Franklin Guitar speaks for itself on that, plus a Master Craftsman will not down play other guitar maker's of the same craft. And you can't find a better man for this than Paul Franklin SR. I've talked with Paul about guitars and I've never ever heard or over heard him say anything bad about another builders guitar. And that says a lot about the man. They don't come any better. As a matter of fact that goes for the whole Franklin Family. [This message was edited by Steve Dodson on 30 October 2005 at 08:31 AM.] |

I have to agree. The man lets his guitars speak for themselves and they do. He will point out the strengths his guitars have over other without mentioning the other guitar company. Class act in my book. I just wish I could own more Franklins and especially a PedaBro... 25 is all we get of those bad boys. I wonder why some of the other big companies don't start making something like a PedaBro???

Mike, I think the reason no one else has come out with one is that, This is only something the Master Himself could build.IMHO |

I talked to Bob Rains yesterday and he said that when he started building guitars he thought maybe he'd do two a year. In order to keep up, he said he NOW needs to turn out two a week!

The RAINS is an outstanding playing -- looking -- and most important to me, outstanding sounding steel with plenty of sustain!! When you have Paul Franklin Sr singing its praises, everyone needs to listen.
My Rains has Mother of Pearl inlays on black mica that is just beautiful. I'd recommend the RAINS to anyone who wants the ultimate steel.

Get a double neck and put the other two stings on it, but you'll have to widen your grip a little.

"round full bottom" and "sustain for days" and "feels like a Franklin" has got my little switch turned on. I hate to ask, but can I get a little more detail? such as hows the mids? There's at least one popular brand out there that seems to be satisfying that "P/P sound" enthusiast seeking modern mechanics and smooth glitchless action, but its a hell of a wait. Im not saying everthing needs to sound like a P/P, just wonderin about its mids. I may not be able to make it out to SWSGA show this Jan. so I have to ask these things. Thanks. Steven, I'll chime in here and tell you about the mids on these guitars.
Thats one of many things that people comment about when they hear these guitars, nice full and warm mids all up and down the neck, not just one area.
The George L. 10-1 seems to be what these guitars love but honestly, they sound great with any pick up.
Give me a call at the store steven and i'll give you a little sample of its tone to the bone. I hope some part of this has been helpful to you, God Bless.

Ken,
I needed another pedal steel like another hole in the head but I really was interested in the Rains and especially the "Spirit" model since all I play is gospel music.
