Topic: Riff slowing software: riffmasterpro or ? |

I used to use a Tascam G2? or something to slow down and learn fast riffs and solos. But probably better software out these days to accomplish that with better quality.
I.e. Riffmasterpro. Anyone recommend that or any other?
Also, is it possible to use any such software to slow down youtube music in any way? Transferring the youtube music to some kind of file first? Just about everything is available on youtube these days without needing to order cd's. At the moment wanting to nail down some Charlie Christian solos and Gypsy jazz solos for some reason. |

I've been using Riffstation, a free download. Works great and not only can you slow it down but you can change the EQ to isolate the part you want so you can hear it better, etc.
As for YouTube videos, they have a built in speed control in the Settings function at the bottom of every video. You can do 3/4 speed, 1/2 speed or 1/4 speed

Riffstation is good and it also tells you chords and key it's in,
but I find it makes many mistakes doing these two things 
I use Audacity all the time and it's also free and has a lot more
features than Riffstation that I use all the time.

Hey Carl,
I have Audacity too and have used it to slow things down but does it have that feature to narrow the EQ down to just where the solo is? That's what I especially like about Riffstation.
What other features do you use in Audacity that you like?

Wow you can slow down the youtubes it's right there in the settings. Thanks!
I heard a sample of Riffmasterpro and it sounded like they figured out how to do it without the sound becoming more and more choppy the slower you go. $50 for that though. 50% slower with youtube setting is easy enough to work with though for now. Probably get some software later that allows to lower everything else and bring the guitar up in the mix which would be very helpful in some cases. |

Change Tempo up or down
Vocal Remover
Equalizer
Normalize
Add Reverb
Add Echo
Record
Add tracks
Add Click tracks
And other things as well.

Steve, that's easy to do. You can record a stereo backing track
and add another track to it or record separate tracks and mix
them and edit them to make the track sound the way you want.

Carl, yes, I'm well aware of all of those. I guess my question was really more limited to its use for slowing down and picking out a part, hearing it more clearly. Wouldn't use most of those for that, maybe just change tempo and EQ, possibly vocal remover if you get lucky.

| Audacity's "Vocal Reduction and Isolation" plugin can be of use to help isolate the instrument portion of a track, but it can take a little playing around to get the best results. And since it doesn't work in 'real time,' I use it to produce and save a new 'iso' version of the song, and then use Transcribe to work through the parts on that iso track. |

Jim, it does those very good, and one thing I use every day
is to put a click track before the start of the intro on every
track so I can always start playing on the first beat.

I have used Best Practice slow down software for several years its a free download and has all the bells and whistles that something like the Amazing Slow Downer has. I don't think they produce a Mac version.

Song Surgeon does a great job for me and has quite a number of great features. Check it out at songsurgeon.com.

I use the amazing slow downer software. It was created by a jazz guitarist. The thing works great and is the best I think. I've used a lot of different phrase looper's over the years, including the GB10. We sure have come a long ways since having to use a record player lol.  |

It says for Windows 7 thru 10 but I use it on XP and it works.

Yet another vote for Transcribe. One of the underrated features IMHO is the fact that you can add section, measure, and beat markers. Not to mention the note/chord estimation, slowing down, pitch correction/modulation, easy looping, etc.
Well worth the money.
