Great lesson by Tommy Emanuel.
I used the same approach for playing Finger style on Standard E9th Tuning. If there is anyone brave enough to try it ..I have a course that is still available so you can learn to play like this. Email me at:

Here is a a solo on E9th Standard Tuning and pedal set up which is one pass...

Another sample of E9th Standard for Thumb Pickin'....
The amazing thing about this is the selection of strings for the thumb 10 and 8 alternating change with the action of the A and B pedals and E knee levers so the thumb work is always in tune with the melody.
My Course goes slow and explains it much better with printed Tab and samples on CD.
This is not for beginners. Players with some experience and a real love for Thumbstyle technique. _________________ Custom Tabs Various Tunings

Great stuff Roy! If my info is right, Bobby Garrett kind of pioneered this style and, of course, Buddy Emmons sure gave it a good go. Not a lot of others, that I have heard anyway, have done much with it. It sounds like you've got it down very well - very Atkins/Travis pickin sounding with a touch of pedal steel... Great! |

Thank you Bobby!
Bobbie Seymour used to play this style also but on his C6 neck. He was an inspiration along with the others you mention in your post.
Best Wishes

I was blown away by Bobbe' Seymore and Bobby Garrett's Travis/Atkins style playing, and went on to create an E9th 12 string copedant for that style.
I basically have all the standard E9th changes, but an octave lower.

That’s a very interesting approach and nicely played Pete , what was your actual copedant on the 12 String? |

I don't have a chart handy, but it is an extension of an E9/B6 S12U.
I basically put the E9th changes that exist on strings 4-8, onto strings 8-12, but String-12 lowers from B-to-A on the A-pedal. |
