Ok pickup shootout. Interested to hear what you are using in a GFI ULTRA E9 other than stock pickup. |

A Lace Alumitone sounded excellent in my 'GFI'. I used the model designed for 5 string bass guitar. |

I like the Alumitone in my GFI S10 Ultra. They are clean and practically noiseless. Got a Geo L in my GFI S12 that sounds great. I had a Telonics type 84 in a Williams once that I loved. _________________ KEVIN MAUL: Airline, Beard, Clinesmith, Donner, Evans, Excel, Fender, Fluger, GFI, Gibson, Hilton, Ibanez, Justice, K+K, Live Strings, MOYO, National, Oahu, Peterson, Quilter, Rickenbacher, Sho~Bud, Supro, TC, Ultimate, VHT, Williams, X-otic, Yamaha, ZKing. |

I tried a few in my Ultra and none sounded as good as the stock GFI-II. An Alumitone was my second choice. But I found most of the traditional-wind pickups to be very generic and "clinical" sounding - high output & high DC resistance seemed to take all the sweetness out of the Lawrence and others I tried.
The GFI-II was would to only 11k DC resistance. Still had fairly high output but much more richness in the tone IMO. _________________ No chops, but great tone

I tried GFI II GFI III Wallace Truetone and George L E 66 in my Ultra. all are good, but I use the brightest, which is the E 66 for I prefer a defined and clear sound over what some call a warm or full sound.
its a matter of taste and playing style |
