| I have the head version paired with a Travis Toy TT-12 speaker. One word: excellent. I have a Stereo Steel and an Evans preamp. The Katana can hold it's own with them. Need I say more. |

My two cents: I had the Katana 100 Watt 1x12 combo. Loved having the effects built in (with tap tempo). Sounded great on underarm guitar, distorted and clean. But I just didn't bond with it on Steel. I tried both clean and acoustic channels and even tried with the onboard eq effects. Just still dig the sound of my old Nashville 400 better. Long story short, I sold it.

| Nathan, what do you feel was the issue with the Katana? I wanted to try one but fear my results would match yours. A room full of amps and effects yet still using a session 400. |

I dunno Larry, maybe it was that I didn’t run it through a “steel guitar” kind of speaker. Maybe I’d have liked it better if I’d tried to put a Travis Toy speaker in it like the other post says. The lows sounded too “woofy” and the mids seem like they were in the wrong place to me. But again - that’s just me and maybe it’s my steel too - my old MSA D-12 has an alumitone pickup in the front neck. So it can be a little hotter. If I wanna gonna buy it again, I’d get the head version, not the combo. Then I could run it through whatever speaker I wanted to. I was certainly loud enough and when my lead guitarist cranked and played the “brown sound”. He almost came undone at how good he thought it sounded. And he’s a dyed-in-the-wool tube guy.

| Thanks Nathan. I am happy with my steel sound and the session 400 but I need a portable rig that handles both guitar and steel. I like the Katana for guitar but then I have several Fender tube amps for that. My twin reverb does both and I considered a split cabinet rig too. Trial and error has cost a fortune thus far. I didn't want to make another near miss. Thanks again for your honest opinion. |

I've been using the Katana 100 over a year now and I love it. I play live shows and record with it and the studio loves it. I use the clean setting and I'm very happy with.

| Tony, do you play Telecaster with the same amp? Is it stock or changed speaker? What is your rig otherwise, straight in or other means? |

Larry it’s stock. I’ve played my strat thru it and really liked it . I have used my Line 6 M9 in the studio for delay, chorus and distortion. I use that so I can have my effects beside me because the amp is in a room. I only the amp and it’s effects when I play live.
