Hi everybody;
So my main rig is a Carvin BX500 to a closed back TT12. I thought it sounded fine - I suppose it does, but then I pulled my NV400 up from the basement. Wow, the steel is right there in front of you, all clear and very present, and great reverb. I spent 3 hours with my ears and an oscilloscope trying to get the two rigs to sound the same, but no luck.
(Sigh)

Glenn I'm right there with you. Due to Severe disc issues and other medical problems weight is a serious issue for me.

I sold my NV112 and bought a pair of Roland Cube 80's. Then trying to go even lighter a BX-500 into a Tommy Huff with a Telonics Neo 15.

I recently purchased a NV400 as an additional amp to leave at a rehearsal space. My band mates told me the first night I used it "That's what a steel should sound like"

When I have the need and accommodating band mates to help me I'll use the NV400. Other times the BX500 and even the Cube's still sound good if they are EQ'd correctly and using the appropriate effects.

But they just don't have the "umph" of the NV400.

The new Peavey looks nice, but my garage is already full. I'm going to mess with it again tonight. I know the world loves open back cabs (like the NV400), but I want to get that sound (if possible) with a closed back cab. For me, a closed back better eliminates room to room variations in sound, especially when my back is against the wall (it always is when I play steel).
