Roger is in town at the moment appearing on steel guitar in the "Always Patsy Cline" show which is currently doing a run at the historic Wells Theater in downtown Norfolk, Va. The first week got cancelled due the the expected hurricane which never arrived so Roger came out to my Thursday night Truck Stop gig and visited. The wife and I attended the Wells Theater last Sunday afternoon and had a wonderful time.
The cast was excellent and the girl playing Patsy was really spot on with her vocals but my attention was to the steel work of Roger. He did a great job and the steel wasn't lost in the mix. It was right out front where it was supposed to be.. Had a nice chat with him after the show as well.. He does other stage shows around the country, so if you hear of him in your area, go on out as it'll be worth seeing... Thanks Roger for the good times, and enjoyable chats even if you do talk funny........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Good to see you and Kay, Jerry! Thanks for attending our little 'entertainment'.
Just today and tomorrow left here in Norfolk. I return home Monday but have to head for KC later in the week where I'll be subbing for Russ Wever for three weeks. THAT will separate the men from the boys!!!
Jerry didn't play steel when I saw his band play but did a great job on his b-bender Tele! Good to see you again, my friend. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

I agree! Roger was very encouraging and helpful in corresponding with me when I played A, PC in Woodstock, IL a few years back. (That's me as a Bodacious Bobcat, up in the left corner.) I recall then that he had a somewhat regular gig to play that show in North Dakota, for some reason.
A very friendly member here! |

Looking forward to seeing Roger play the upcoming PC show in Kansas City - actually the theatre is in Overland Park, KS but that's just how things work in a city that straddles the Missouri/Kansas state line. |

I agree with all positive comments regarding Roger.
Five years ago I had the pleasure of visiting Roger in his beautiful condo in Naples Florida and left with two NV 112 amps that were in perfect condition. Roger, they are still in perfect condition and are played almost every day. Additionally, Roger is a wellspring of information and stories about British musical history from the 60’s and 70’s... apparently because he was a part of “the scene†and has the pictures to prove it. I also received a short tutorial about London buses. All in all I would have had a good time, even if I never left with the amps.
Thanks Roger, and I hope that you had a great time in VA. It is my home state.

Hi, Duncan! I'm glad the amps are serving you well. I remember your visit very well and I hereby apologise for bending your ear about buses. Pretty sure it would have been trolleybuses, though - here's a picture for you.
Rick: if you're smart you'll wait to see Russ Wever in the show - I'm just subbing for him as he has a prior commitment.
Gary: My pleasure - I'm happy to have been able to help. I put my notice in at the ND gig last year and 2017 was my last season. Junior Mercer has taken it now and I'm sure he has done a great job. I do miss it, though. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Roger is indeed a good guy to boot. In fact, I do so every chance I get. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Yeah, I love me some Roger, too!
We don't get to cross paths often enough,
but we sure have some good visits when we
do . . for several years Roger would come
visit on his annual treks to/from his
summer North Dakota gig.
First met him back around 2000 when he had
just taken delivery of a new Emmons and
was headed home with it.
I'm currently in the middle of a 10-week
production in KCMO but had a previous
contract for three weeks in WV right in
the middle of those ten weeks, and who
comes to the rescue? . . Yup . . . Roger!
If ya ever have chance to visit with Roger,
don't pass it up . . .

Roger - I wasn't there (I'm sure no one else but you noticed any aardvark sounds), but I plan to attend soon and will hopefully get to visit with you at some point. I hope you're enjoying your stay - we brought in the cloudy cool weather to make you feel at home.
Maybe I'll go twice - once for Roger and once for Russ. |

Hey I'll jump in too! Same thing...I met Roger at a Patsy Cline "Always" show in Key West, FL earlier this year and he made the show totally enjoyable for me. Chatted afterwards and stayed in touch via Facebook. Now I'm even learning about those London trolley buses he is so obsessed with _________________ Sierra S10 (three!), Peavey 112 and 115, Benoit dobro, Beard Model E dobro, Beard Roadophonic, MSA Superslide, Dean Nickless custom dobro |
