Topic: Picking with a guitar pick ? |

How many have tried to play pedal steel with a guitar pick to double on guitar?
I have tried to learn to play guitar with finger picks without much luck.
Started to attempt this and it didn't seem as difficult as I would have thought.
A trade off of course but still doable.

A friend of mine played with a flat pick and played very well. He was extremely fast and when necessary he used his middle and index fingers to make full chords that were used in slower numbers.
I eventually persuaded him to use finger picks but he never played as well. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut.

Wow that guy is really good. That is a lot of notes for my taste, seems a little busy.
I do not have the ability to play that fast.

| steve piticco from Ontario does that, he's about the best telecaster player there is and he is killer on all stringed instruments, great on steel too. |

Didn’t know Steve played steel but I can see where he could easily do it. I don’t see how anyone gets that good in a lifetime. Lol

Hi Ken when I have the ocasion to go back and forth on Steel and Guitar I use these Fred Kelly Picks. There not cheep but come in Light, Med. and Heavy and work great for me. They feel good and fit well.

| Early on I tried thumb pick/finger picks. Never could make it happen. I've used a flat pick/fingernails for over 20 years. Works just fine for me. I do go back forth from steel to "regular" guitar a lot on a gig as well. |

Not sure what is trying to be said in the preceding comment, but one word is worth a thousand pictures... Junior uses a flat pick and two fingerpicks for both necks of the Git-Steel.

It's the wrist/arm angle...the motion can't be the same as six-string.
Still, there are some benefits from using a pick, such as a good chugga-chugga-chugga palm muted power chord or other percussive effects. So there's always a flat pick in-between necks along with the extra finger picks for me. |
