I was just reading about Felton Pruett having passed away today. I'm not sure he's been on the forum or not. What little I know of him is that he played steel guitar for over 70 years which included "The Louisiana Hayride" with Hank Williams. It's pretty common knowledge that Don Helms was Hank William's steel player, but the article claimed it was one of Felton's legacies. Anyway, thought it might be worth mentioning since it was just a small blurb in the media that caught my attention. R.I.P. to another lost steel player. That's him in the picture below this thread.

Thanks for posting that.
He was one of a few staff players on the Louisiana Hayride in its earliest days, along with Jimmy Day and Sonny Trammell.
Here's a pic with the Hank Locklin band from maybe 65 years ago.
There used to be a Youtube film clip of Felton playing behind Johnny Horton on "The Train With A Rhumba Beat". Don't know if it's still there.
A very talented player.

Hey Barry, thanks for posting. I never knew this player, but I suspect there are quite a good many steel players out there that are unsung not well know today, but contributed a lot to our kind of music. _________________ Mullen Lacquer SD 10, 3 & 5; Mullen Mica S 10 1/2 pad, 3 & 5; BJS Bars; LTD400, Nashville 112, DD-3, RV-3, Hilton VP . -- Gold Tone PBS sq neck; Wechter Scheerhorn sq neck. -- "Experience is the thing you have left when everything else is gone." -anon.- |

Felton did, indeed, play for Hank Williams. He played for awhile before Don Helms came into the picture I believe. You have to keep in mind that Hank went through quite a few pickers between his drinking & his hard traveling. |
