Hi,
I ordered this half stop mechanism from PSG PARTS for my old MSA Classic.
It's for the second and nineth strings. D# to d, then the stop and further to d flat (or c#)
i asumed it would not be a big deal to install it but now it's here i'm thinking i need to use a screw to install it to my guitar right?
So, i want to do this the correct way, right away.
Can anyone give me some advises?
Right now i have these changes on lkr. Is there any reason to nót wanting the stop there? Might it be best to use rkr for this?
This is the unit i have:

I don't have an installation video, but here's a picture of mine. Put it wherever you want it, but for simplicity's sake, I'd put it near the edge, out of the way of active pulls (this guitar was, for a while, a universal), which also makes it easier to find.
If the included rod is long enough, I'd set it up to pull, rather than push, and put the tower (and tuning wheel) way out beyond LKL.
There is wide flexibility in the mode of installation.

I know that the installation I showed has the half-stop being pushed while I recommend setting it to pull.
This instance, pushing works because of the short travel from bellcrank to half-stop. If it goes beyond a couple of inches, then the rod can start to flex, which doesn't happen if you pull.
Here's a video showing the way I rigged it on Donnie Souther's MSA D-10, with a half-stop on each neck https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dU97wLjQoCk _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Here is a link to a video showing how to install a Mullen tuneable half-stop. It may be helpful.

Thank you very much for the helpfull tips and video's.
This is the kind help i was looking for
Right now string 9 starts going to c# when string 2 has arrived at d. So i 'feel' this point and i'm actually pretty pleased with this but it' a little hard to intonate exact at the d tone.
Thanks,
Michell |
