Junior Blue is a 6 string bass that is mostly an 'effects guitar', but I have used it to double a bass line. The main body was machined from a 1 1/2" x 4" 7075 T735 aluminum bar. (This is an aerospace alloy that I got surplus from Lockheed.) The overall length is 45", the overall width is 5" and the scale length is 34 1/4".
The pickups, on both ends of the neck, are Carvin and it has active/passive electronics with a blend control. The frets and nut are stainless steel and the frets are pressed in. The frets are in Just intonation and at the 12th fret, they "palindrome" or reverse themselves so that the fretboard is mathematically symmetrical. I left out what would have been the 13th (11th) and 18th (6th) frets.
It's tuned C G C G C (C, D or E) and I use either a 12 string bar, a Shubb 8 string bar or a Scheerhorn. What it's really usefull for is rolling the bar on the strings. At the 12th fret, both pickups "hear" the same notes. At the 11th fret, the right hand pickup "hears" B F# B F# B B the left pick up "hears" C# G# C# G# C# C# and so on down the neck. Because the frets are in Just, both sides of the bar will be in tune over them.
