I want to get a super lightweight case for my Willy U-12. Currently, i have a heavy duty flight case that is probably heavier than the steel guitar. Just getting over two weeks of Sciatica that is a pain in the ***.

Len
I have a couple of lightweight cases from Kevin Hatton, and they are way lighter than road cases. His web site is at http://www.hattoncases.net/pedal.html

I’m in the process of ordering a fibre-style poly case from https://www.phillycase.com/. Will be very light!

good stuff above, check out what my friend John did. I did purchases a "soft gun" case for $20 which can be used to carry the pedal rack and rods, drops about 15 pounds overall from a D10 , but I don't use it.

see below for link

I don't think a heavy guitar in a soft case would work for me, just sayin...

Len, do a search "guitar weight problem solved!" under my name, posted March 27. The 1" case lining foam gives more protection than you'll ever need, assuming you are not on the road using roadies. I turn mine up on its end on a rock and roll cart. It fell off onto the pavement once. Didn't concern me one bit.

For me the best solution available today are the 'Brand X' cases. Woody Woodell used to make these but now Steve Hinson makes them.

He has a Facebook page, I believe, or you can reach him here on the Forum. They're fiber-board and afford good protection for your steel in most scenarios. I've toured with mine for years and, although it's getting battered, it's still very serviceable. I have a two-piece that will accommodate my D-10 Emmons. I can use the larger case to carry my Zum Encore without using the pedal-bar case - it all goes in one.

My new Excel came with (at my option) a cool semi-hard roller case. It's a Japanese or Chinese brand slim suitcase. They're made to fit in between train/subway turn-styles and aisles.

Mitsuo fits them out with foam blocks and crushed velvet to fit the guitar. Looks very pro, of course, coming from Excel.

It weighs about 5 lbs without the guitar inside.

The outside is molded plastic, pretty hard and puncture resistant. Closes with heavy duty zipper and has a code lock. Rollers on the bottom, and non-extendable handle fitted to the top.

I'm sorry my picture is upside down.

That looks great, Mike - can't we get them here? I'd like to see my black Emmons in a fancy red case!

This is the ONLY reference to these cases I can find.

The name embossed on the case is "bessed"

I have the red one shown at left.

https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/kaminorth/item/10013374/

They actually list the weight as 3.6 kg.

I know you can get one wide enough for a D-10, Excel offers them with guitars.

How to order one off the internet? Good luck!

I don;t see Brand-X cases mentioned in this thread, so I’ll mention it. One of the unsung advantages of these cases is that the top comes off. This allows you to set up the guitar on your pac seat (with a back).

Sorry Roger - my eyes not your post.

I carry my lighter guitar in these cases as well. At this point of life, I would never take my D-10 out in it’s full sized case. I’m happy that I’m still able to tote a D-10 around.

I use a Wheel-Ez case for my Emmons most of the time. It's eminently portable with its wheels at one end.

The Brand X style, though, is more user-friendly. As Howard said, the top is detachable and assembling the guitar is a breeze with the open case sitting on my Steelers' Choice seat (with a back).

The Wheel-ez needs to be laid out flat with the lid open because the p/bar and legs 'live' inside the lid. That often means setting up at floor-level, something I find increasingly challenging.

I have standard cases for both steels but they're at the back of my closet. The next time they'll see the light of day is when Mrs Rettig is disposing of her late-husband's clutter. Sad

The reason I sought out Phillycases fibre-style cases (and I believe they will be more durable - poly rather than fibre) is because after 3 months of emailing and Facebook messaging with Brand X, still not a word back.

Ah, okay. I bought mine many years ago when Woody had the company (it wasn't called Brand X then but the product was the same).

I suppose Steve is balancing his music work with everything else. That's not always easy.

I also had Woody make me a case for my Steelers' Choice seat - I've shipped that by air or by Fedex many times and it's been a blessing. That way I can ship all my accessories in one package.

Going down to your local Walmart or Target you could save $$$$ by buying a Nylon bag for around $20. You could use it to pack your legs/rods/ and pedal board. This will knock an apreciable amount of weight off your D-10 MSA or Sho Bud and save you $$$$. Dont tell your chiropractor. !!!!!

Whoops just saw Chris's post.....he's already said this!!!

Marc, How much does your philly case weigh ? On line it was about 20 LBS. The Brand X (which I wish was being made) weighs closer to 5 LBS.

I've been talking with the guys at Calton Cases and bringing pedalsteels to the factory for them to check out. They may have something coming out in the next year.

Have they changed back to the older, lighter ones I've seen in England? My wife and I have them for our acoustic guitars, and there's no way they could be characterized as "light".

I reckon my two-part fibre cases weigh 8 lbs for the large one and 3 lbs for the small. Here they are - battle-scarred after fifteen years but still perfectly serviceable.

They've been under buses, in airplane holds and tossed in countless trunks. While these aren't 'Brand X' I believe they're identical to Steve's current product.
