This question applies to the older-type pedals the factory installed on push/pull guitars, not the later LeGrande-style extruded pedals.
There were both wide and slightly narrower floor pedals, and variations of each type. It's my understanding that the wider pedals were the originals, and the narrower pedals were introduced later. In order to facilitate hanging more than 8 pedals on the pedal bar, a narrower pedal was developed.
My questions:
1) What was the approximate date the factory switched from the wide to the narrow pedals?
2) Presumably, both types were available concurrently, at least for a while. If so, for how long? |

Some time back I traded for a p/p that, at one time, belonged to Doug Jernigan.
It had 11 foot pedals on it and of course, it had to have the narrower pedals in order to accommodate all 11 pedals.

I've seen ten pedals, but never eleven. Wow! My D-10 and GS-10, both 1973 models, have the wide pedals. The D-10 could not accept more than eight floor pedals and still mount the VP to the pedal rack. |

I talked to Doug at a steel guitar show and asked him if he ever had a p/p with 11 foot pedals and he said: "yes".
I told him that I had it and he said: "Can I see it!".
I didn't have it with me and, besides that, it needs serious overhaul.

'to the best of my (poor) memory, the narrower pedals were first introduced with the LeGrande.....someone else will have to chime in with what year LeGrande's were born.
I don't ever recall seeing a LeGrande with PP 'wide type' pedals
I'm thinking that for a period, PPs could be ordered from factory with (the narrower) LeGrande floor pedals - think that was an available option with my '79 Rosewood D10 PP - and I've seen a few examples of Factory-born PPs with narrow LeGrande floor pedals.
Someone more knowledgeable than me may know when Emmons factory stopped offering/making PPs with LeGrande's narrower pedals.
(Keep in mind that direct interchange of PP and LeGrande pedals & pedal rack assemblies is not recommended due to different spacing of undercarriage attachments)
I like the older wider pedals

I think the narrower cast pedals were introduced in the 1969-70 era.

i had a 1970 that had wide pedals and my 71 has the narrow so Herb is about spot on. My 74 also has narrow.

My experience based on the guitars I've owned/own also correlates with Herb's info:
'67 cuttail - Wide
'66 bolt-on - Wide
'67 bolt-on - Wide
'69 fatback cuttail - Wide
'71 fatback cuttail - Narrow |

| Both of my instruments (a D-10 and a GS-10) have wide pedals. Before the company disappeared, Bobbie at Emmons told me each was built in 1973. Both the wide and the narrow pedals must have been used concurrently, at least for a couple of years. |

When I ordered my 75PP I had the option of wide or narrow pedals at no difference in cost.

The pedal-to-pedal spacing on the wide pedals is 2-3/4", on the narrow pedals it is 2-1/2". The foot pads are 1-3/8" on the wide, 1-1/8" on the narrow. The cross shaft spacing obviously has to match the spacing of the pedals too.
I have an S10 fatback that has wide pedals. I was told is a '73 but I don't know for sure. I have another late '70s PP, it has narrow |

| My '70/'71 cut-tail fatback has wide pedals. They are 2 3/4" center to center, 1 3/8" pad width, with 1 3/8" between pedals. |
