I'm having trouble finding a soundhole pickup that will easily fit into my Weis. Are these soundholes smaller than an acoustic spanish-syle guitar?
I'm looking at a Baggs M1 passive, although tricky to get it in there. Any other recommendations? |

Even though the soundhole is smaller, I have been able to squeeze the Sunrise pickup into my Weissenborns.
They seem to be the preferred pickup for a Weiss.

Some of the pickups may have to be modified with hand tools to fit the sound hole properly. They may also need to be shimmed up to get into correct proximity to the strings. A Seymour Duncan passive woody model might be a good choice.
Gold Tone does make a pickup specifically for their Weissenborn copies, although it is not cheap and seems to be a special order. |

The Baggs pickup probably will fit - it is what I use. You have to completely take off the mounting plates , put the pickup in, and then wiggle the plates and screws back into position after the pickup is in place. Not too hard. You also might want to shim the pickup up a bit, depending on the height of your strings, to get a stronger signal out of it. (I talked to the folks at Baggs and they recommended that.) _________________ https://www.lostsailorspdx.com

I use the Baggs too. It can be a pain in the butt getting it in and out. I didn't want to drill the end pin do when I have it in the guitar, the chord dangles. All that said, it sounds pretty good. I was never convinced that the Sunrise sound that great or was worth the extra money. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

I have two pickups on my Weiss, a Sunrise in the soundhole and another mounted under the bridge inside the guitar.
The leads from the pickups go to a stereo jack on the end of the guitar and from there they go to a Marshall acoustic amp with a stereo input where I can balance the signal from the two pickups.
Sounds great!!!
