He gets an almost elastic, rubbery sound on that Little Feat tune. Anyone know what effects he used for that sound? I know he played an 8 string Fender, is his tuning and copedent listed somewhere?

Thats what his guitar sounded like... There is a magic tone in the old long scale Fender 400 guitar w/Jazzmaster style pickups, that can't really be easily duplicated with modern steels.. That was pretty representative of what a lot of them sounded like...
If you listen closely on that cut, its actually pretty dry, just a lot of compression..
They sounded to me a lot like a 50's strat with the switch in the "in between" position..

He really lays it down well under Bill Payne. I think of Sneaky as being very intuitive--good with a band that uses unusual changes.
I agree with Bob C. about Take it Easy/Our Lady of the Well. Absolutely inspirational. When he starts his solo, I can almost hear the words reprised.
He could fit equally well with Sandy Denny and The Ventures and everybody else he ever played with. |
