Topic: I dodged a bullet today of all days my 1st day as PSG owner |

So I come home from paying for my 1st PSG and I hear my cabin alarm going off. (My picking shed where my brand new 1996 Williams 400 D10 sits waiting to be properly flogged, prolly take 10-12 years at the least)
So I go to the cabin to see the door busted in and strange footprints in the dirt, and I peeked in to see if the willy was still there. I think I peed a little and Iḿ sure I farted.
Thank the Lord all was in place. Nothing missing. It seems the alarm scared away the would-be thief.
Iĺl spend tomorrow upgrading my security, maybe even breakdown the D10 and hide it in the basement
So, if youŕe not bored to sleep yet, hereś my story...
I registered on the forum, did a little lurking and asked a few questions.
Nobody told me I was crazy (yet)
So I finally did it. After 50 years of playing guitars I finally bought a psg. (the afore-mentioned Williams 400 D10)
Every day for the last week I´ve spent at least 90 minutes sweatin´ over it. Some method books, many youtubes and lots of trial and error/hunting and pecking. (these things dont come with an instruction manual)
Iḿ finally making sounds that don´t make the baby cry (is that a good thing or should I be trying to make the baby cry?) so many questions.....
Anywho, thanks to Scott for being such a kind enabler and Skip for the prompt volume pedal delivery.
But mostly thanks to bOb for this great forum and all of you who answer my dumb questions

You're on the right track, Bert. Y'see, the secret of playing PSG is, first, to play well enough that you no longer make the baby cry whenever you play.
But the next hurdle is to keep at it long enough that you can make the adults in the room cry. Go figure...

I thought when the alarm went off, and the door was ajar, you went in your picking shed only to see a second PSG sitting next to the Williams.
Don’t bother with extra security. There is no better theft deterant than a D10!

I hate to say this, but being Mr. Negativity Pants: If whomever broke in saw that guitar, don't be surprised if they come back.
Alarm system or not, D10 weight or not, these types don't care.
Who knows why they were there, or what they expected to find?
More than likely all they are looking for is something to take and sell, usually for peanuts.
If they take it they aren't going to take the time to disassemble it and put it in the case as a complete unit.
They probably don't even know what they're taking.
They don't know or care how difficult it will be to sell.
The person that they're selling it to probably doesn't know what it is, either.
And once they buy it, they don't have any idea how difficult it will be to get rid of it, being the specialty item that it is.
Especially with no case or extras.
As someone else eluded to, it belongs in a house where it might be just a *little* more secure.

No, It is a carefully crafted timber framed cob house, solar powered and with a nice jute rug and climate control. I loosely refer to it as my picking shed. The dirt in question is outside of the door.

Points well taken. Again, timber framed cob house, not a shed. I have replaced the door lock with a deadbolt and padlock and I secured the psg tp the timber frame with a python cable lock.
They would need some serious tools and a lot of time.
The alarm in question SCREAMS and is a total sonic repellant. The only more effective audio deterrent would be me actually playing the steel. |
