Topic: Half stop for F# to G# raise on string 1? |

I currently pull strings 1 and 7 a half step from F# to G using RKR, but would like to experiment with pulling string 1 up a whole step to G#... Is this do-able, using the same mechanical concept that allows the half-stop on string 2???

| I think Paul Franklin created a "feel stop" for the G by adding the second string D# to E pull. |

| Not sure about Paul.But that's how I do it.If you have a D-10? In addition to the D# to E pull. You can time a pull on the C6th to help with the 1/2 tone feel.......bb [This message was edited by Bobby Boggs on 31 August 2005 at 10:05 PM.] |

Nathan,
I don't know what kind of guitar you are playing but I have added additional 1/2 stops to several different guitars. Just order a 1/2 stop kit from the builder and put it on.

| Erv - thanks for the input. I play a Mullen (year 2000 model). I realize there are half-stop parts you can install -- I was mainly wondering if it could be achieved "naturally" on string 1 the way it is on string 2. |

What happens when you tighten the tuning nut on the 1st string, so that it raises a whole step? |

do just as bobby boggs says...
you can still time the pull even on a single neck guiar. that's how i do it.

| Earnest has a good point. If it's already timed with the 7th string, you might be able to simply tune the first string change up to G# and "naturally" have a feel stop when the 7th string engages. |

| My 1/2 stop works for both 1 and 7.I'm thinking Paul's does also.I play Emmons LeGrande's with 13 hole bell cranks.This makes timing things a little easier.However I've had this change on Legrandes with 4 hole cranks. Also a Franklin,Derby,Zum,JCH, Fessy and Carter. It can be done.But it sometimes takes a lot of time.........bb |

i have the feel stop with the second string. the 1 & 7 strings will pull a 1/2 tone before the 2 string is pulled. that will indicate the 1/2 stop.

Cool, guys - I will try that. I need to grab an extra bell crank in order to put that 2nd string E raise on the same lever, but I'm going to give it a shot. I appreciate you guys' feedback!!

I Raise #4 & #8 on my LKL in that fashion. Without changing the Original linkage for the (E)'s to (F)'s, I raise my #8 to (F/F#) with an automatic Half/Feel. When I had my last Franklin I actually did use a half/stop besides the half/feel and probably will do the same on my next new guitar, coming up soon I hope!  Either way works well for me.

Well, guys, thanks to your suggestions and a month's worth of me bugging Mike Mantey and the folks at Mullen for parts, advice, and encouragement (hats off to them!), I have this pull working as Bobby and Carlos described. The half stop is pretty faint on string 7, but on string 1 it's rock solid. I can live with it...
Plus: the raise on string 2 gives you that fine V to I change on strings 5,2,1 -- on one lever!!
