Looks like a nice compact little amp for jazz guitar and lap steel. Anyone familiar with both regarding the 80's model (MIJapan) vs the new(MIChina)? Both can be found in the same ball park price. Other than the new model offers more effects options, basic sound comparable?

I have been playing a newer Roland Cube 60 amp modeling model for quite sometime, maybe 12 years or so, and I love it. I mainly use it for pedal steel but I've played 6 string guitar gigs and lap steel gigs with it and it always delivers. I haven't ever gigged with the Cube 80, which is really popular with pedal steel players, but I tried one in the store and I liked the Cube 60 better. I'm not familiar with the older Cube 60's, but everything Roland makes is good!

I'm mainly interested in this amp for lap and six string
but it's says a lot that it's pulling through for pedal for many at least for some situations. Especially for such a compact little amp you can pick up for under $200.

I have two of the older Cube 60 amps and wouldn't go near the later ones..

...while I also love the sound of my 59 re-issue Fender Bassman tweed, I know which amp(s) I would rather carry up and down the stairs...

There is a lot written about the Roland Cube series on the Vguitar Forum, if that helps you.

Cheers,
Peter

I have an old Roland Cube and it sounds very nice. No Reverb or channel switching, just a button for bright or normal. I have had a few Roland modeling amps and while they are OK, the SS analog amps have a sweeter sound.
