I like my Steelers Choice Easy Rider. It is comfortable, well built and the back rest is high enough to be just where I need it to support my back. I sat in several at the Dallas Steel show and the Steelers Choice was my favorite and the one I purchased.

Steelers' Choice for me.

I bought my first one second-hand when I first came to the USA about twenty years ago. It is still going strong.

I bought a new all-black one a couple of years later to coincide with the delivery of my then-new D-10 Legrande 111.

Both have the side-pocket and the back-rest. Both have taken an abnormal amount of road-abuse. They're always packed full of 'stuff' and I only rarely use a shipping-box yet the black one still looks like new.

For my use I removed the interior partitions in both pockets. I found it more useful to have the extra space. I also removed the power-strip from the first one I bought. I found that I almost never used it and it added unnecessary weight as well as the mains-cord coming uncoiled at inconvenient moments.

They're two of the best purchases I ever made.

After 40 years of using a traditional pack a seat, I have gone a totally different direction. I was looking for something lighter weight. I found this Quik-lok musicians seat. It could not be designed any better for steel. It folds and unfolds in less than 10 seconds, height adjusts, nice thick firm padding, solid as a rock, front of cushion is curved to make it easy to get in and out, and the solid steel supports at each end gives us old guys something to grab to lift ourselves up. Plus, the steel supports are receptive to magnets, so you can attach things to it, even a drink cup, if you make it a magnetic bottom. Also, the bottom support legs are off center to the back, out of the way of our feet. There are only three drawbacks: You will have to carry two pieces, it weighs 19 LB, and costs $89.00 from MF Sweetwater, etc.

To carry my gear, I have a rolling computer case. It is small and light weight. It has a bunch of pockets. In the main inside compartment, I have a Carvin BX-500
backup amp, Strobo-flip tuner, volume pedal, Wet Reverb pedal, and Zoom recorder. All my other gear and cords are sorted and is in other compartments.

I sit this beside me and I have access to anything I need without having to get off my seat. The only reason I can see not to use this system is having to carry two pieces. The plus side of breaking your weight up, taking less packing space in the van, and being able to carry more gear better organized trumps a single pack
a seat, at least for me.

I plan on getting a padded carrying bag made for the folded seat. I tried a top of the line X braced keyboard bench, but didn't like it and sent it back. This BZ7 by Quik-lok is the bomb.

Thanks for the heads up on the Quik-lok George. Food for thought. Some of the reviews are unkind to the seat cushion angle and upholstery though. Your experience?

Also, MF's blurb mentions backrest availability in the future, but other reviews say the idea was abandoned...for those interested...personally, I don't like a backrest. I'll be checking into one of these in the near future.

WOW, thanks for posting this guys. I appreciate the great insight you guys share. I have been using the X brace seat and trying to figure out what to move to next. I like this Quik-lok set up George. Thanks for the heads up. I might have to give that a try. I too and trying to avoid any heavy pieces when leaving home and this looks like it would be a lot more comfortable than the X braced seat but still be light enough to haul easily.

The seat is perfectly level, so the only thing that they can be talking about concerning the angle of the seat is the curvature on the front. One of the first things I noticed when I first slid behind the steel was the corner of the seat was not in my way, due to the curvature. I think this is the reason for the curvature. I don't see that you would need the area you lose on the ends due to the curvature once you sit down.

I don't have any complaint about the upholstery. It's a nice naughahide with beading around the top edge. If it were cloth upholstery, it would be cooler, but then it would get dirty easier and would get soaking wet in a rain. A cloth cover could be sewed up and added if it is important, or lay a towel or sheepskin on it held in place with sticky back Velcro. I like the really firmness of the cushion. Others may say it's too hard.

I am easy to please, some people aren't happy unless they are not pleased. I have no complaints and think it is a very ingenious design. No bolts to strip out, no hinges to break, no parts to loose, no thumb screws or knob bolts.

Yet another fine example of the forum in action. Got a funny feeling where my holiday gig money is going! Thank you guys for the advice. I've been using a cheap metal piano stool with the x brace welded and reinforced. There is a hitch in my getalong!

Been using a Walker Seat with a back rest for about 8 years now. I put my own power strip on the lower, right side. Nice. My Walker has been to Ireland and back. Got some miles on it.
