I've seen one of Bruce's video's. It was the "beginner" tape but it covered a lot more than beginner. A friend let me view it. I would say it's worth having.

One of the best things about Bruce's video is that since he tends to play some pretty basic stuff, you can really hear what killer steel tone is about, without being dazzled by some insanely fast playing. His sound on that tape is really just about the pinnacle as far as I'm concerned. There are some very valuable lessons on there.

A friend just gave me this tape yesterday, and I put it on today to have a look. It starts off really basic, which is great for beginners. Actually, it's not bad to watch this part even if you're intermediate.... it reminds you of your bad habits. About a half-hour into the lesson, he starts getting into some licks and runs that are very effective. He shows how to get really cool stuff on E9 from just the three pedals......I haven't seen anything further yet (my baby hurled on me), but even that little bit was enough to remind me that there are twenty years of licks in those three pedals alone.
His approach is friendly, and his explanations are precise and clear. He also gets into right-hand technique as well. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the tape, and learning all his tricks.

Thanks for the advice everyone... I got the DVD yesterday, and of course, had it mastered within the first 30 minutes -- in my dreams.

I will spend a while learning from this course. I especially enjoy Bruce's down-to-earth approach to playing the instrument, and the course moves right into some interesting stuff. I played along with him for a bit, then just watched the rest of it -- like I said, I'll spend a while learning from this.

I'd recommend it highly.

Thanks for the kind words.That video is at least fifteen years old and has managed to stay alive thanks to Homespun tapes. I just wish I'd worn a different shirt.

Bruce's video got me started also on pedal steel. I was impressed by his work with Ricky Skaggs and other artists, so I bought the video. Glad I did. Bruce has a great way of teaching and I wish he would come out with a volume 2. It could be titled, "Licks I Used On Different Sessions", or something like that. I'm sure it would be a welcomed addition to any steel guitar video collection. Call me crazy, but I liked the shirt. I've got one like it. Thanks Bruce. Michael
